Description
Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a biennial herb of the genus Allium in the family Amaryllidaceae. The root of onion is a string-shaped fibrous root. The stem shrinks into a stem disc, which is oblate conical. The leaf consists of a leaf body and a leaf sheath, and the leaf body is dark green and cylindrical. The base of the leaf sheath expands at the initial stage of growth to form a bulb, and each plant will form a spherical bulb with purple, pink, copper yellow, yellowish or white colors. The flowering and fruit period is from May to July. As early as the third century AD, that is, after the opening of the Silk Road in the Western Han Dynasty, it was gradually introduced into China, because it was a foreign object, it was called "shallots", that is, onions.
