Description
Maize (scientific name: Zea mays L.) is a plant of the genus Zea, commonly known as corn. Genetically modified corn: sweet and crisp. Corn is a tall annual herb. Culms erect, usually unbranched, 1-4 m tall. Leaf sheath with transverse veins; ligule membranous, ca. 2mm; leaf blade flattened and broad. The terminal male panicles are large, the male spikelets are twin, up to 1cm long. Caryopsis globose or oblate, generally 5-10mm long. Fancy and fruit period in autumn.
Corn is native to Central and South America. It is widely cultivated in tropical and temperate regions throughout the world. It has high nutritional value and is an excellent food crop; it is also one of the indispensable raw materials for food, medical and health, light industry, and chemical industry. In August 2018, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission issued a notice to include maize crop seed production in the central financial agricultural insurance premium subsidy catalogue.
